Leighton Woodside Girls under 15's side is flying high after a positive start to the new football season.

The team are currently joint top of the Bedfordshire Girls' League Division One after three wins from three.

The side opened the season with a comprehensive 8-1 home win over Wootton Rangers, before a 2-0 win at GLK Northampton, last year's Buckinghamshire Division One winners.

Last weekend the girls followed up those matches with a stunning 5-1 success away at Luton Town Ladies.

The goals have come from Zara MacKenzie (7), Summer Sanchez (4), Tamzin Hartwig (1), Story Jones (1), Charlie Whitmore (1) and Erin Ryan (1).

Assists were provided by Lois Ward (4), Lily-Rose Hack (2), Zara MacKenzie (2), Summer Sanchez (2), Story Jones (2), Rubee-Leigh Whittaker (1), Tamzin Hartwig (1) and Amelia How (1).

The team is run by coaches Andy MacKenzie and Ash Hartwig and also includes Jess Pearce, Ava Blackwell, Ellie Sturdy, Mia Arkle, Nyah Agbenyegah and Phoenix-Wood Harris.

Development is key, and so is facing up to challenges.

Andy said: "Our philosophy is to try and help the girls develop while enjoying their football and it's great to see them all progressing while playing with a smile on their faces.

"We gave the girls some tough friendlies against older opposition and the message was that there is nothing wrong with losing matches as long as you play to the best of your ability.

"Hopefully this has helped them play without fear and will stand them in good stead for the season ahead."

As for the boys, the fantastic Shoot Academy, a charity run football association based in Farnborough, under 14's team coming into the season, gave their all at a scorching game last weekend, playing Rushmoor, they were 3-0 down at half time to come back to draw 5-5.

The boys are demonstrating some great resilience and determination of late!

We couldn't be prouder!
